On Dec 1st, 2014, under the concern of leaders from Health and Family Planning Commission of Hubei Province, Hubei Cancer Hospital(HBCH) Biobank was officially launched. The ceremony was hosted by Dean Assistant Xinhong Wu. Dean Shaozhong Wei and Party Secretary Renchong Hu jointly inaugurated the Biobank. Leaders Keliang Zhang, Yulin Liu, Yan Xiao, Desheng Hu and directors from related functional departments took part in the ceremony. It is reported that although this biobank has been established behind Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, etc., its starting level is much high and will become the largest tumor biobank in Central and Southern China with 100,000 samples after the second development stage in 2016. It would provide plenty of high-quality, primary and basic resources for the research, development and evaluation of tumor innovative drugs and the study of new technology and methods of tumor diagnosis and treatment.

    HBCH is devoted to cancer prevention, treatment, research and education, with abundant tumor samples. In the mean time, HBCH is Clinical Oncology College of Wuhan University, Hubei Tumor Institute, Hubei Cancer Centre, Hubei Oncology Quality Control Center, The National Drug Clinical Trial Base and Postgraduate Training Base of Wuhan University. Moreover, HBCH is the first committee member of China Medical Biotech Association Biobank Branch from Hubei, having the exceptional advantages to establish international standard tumor biobank.

    The Biobank is not only the important step of “HBCH Twelve Projects—Special Disease Research Project”, but also a highlight in HBCH disciplinary development program(2014-2020). It definitely will promote HBCH scientific research development to improve HBCH international prestige.
